good evening - i )m beverly kidd and i m kurt williams a community is grieving tonight--- after a murder suicide that left six people dead. a heartbreaking story -- a chesapeake family - police say they were murdered at the hands of their loved one. inside the home -- is where the family massacre began. police say 26 year old cameron dooley shot his brother 22 year old landon dooley yesterday afternoon.

found cameron who was holding the rest of his family hostage. police say he murdered his former chesapeake lori dooley. his 17 year old sister -- brooke. and another female family member who hasn )t been then he shot himself. police are still investigating and trying to figure out why this all happened right now allison mechanic is in chesapeake-- where the community held a vigil to remember the dooley family. allison -- how )s the community dealing with this tragedy? well bev / kurt the deep creek community is still shocked after hearing that 5 of their own were shot and killed by a

we are out here at temple baptist church where there was a prayer vigil for the dooley family earlier tonight. the pastor told us the dooley family were very active members at this church and they honored their memory by comforting one another. :39:05 the dooleys were a pillar and we want the family to know to know that we are here for them and we love them and we will overcome this. shocked -- and grief stricken -- friends and family of the dooley )s made their way to temple baptist church in chesapeake this evening for a prayer vigil. 8:31:55 this is just a tragedy it )s not something that you would think would ever happen early this morning chesapeake police reported that a barricade situation on north george washington hughway turned deadly. they say cameron dooley killed an unidentified adult woman, his brother, his sister, his mother and is father -- a recently retired chesapeake police officer before shooting and killing himself. 8:38:48

this morning when i woke up and heard what happened. joann reynolds has lived near the dooleys her whole life. she said knowing that todd dooley was a police officer was a comfort to her. 8:39:40 he was working a football game one night and i told him where i lived and said that j feel safe every night going to bed because i know you are a couple streets over. but although the murder of 5 people and the suicide of the shooter happened at that same house a couple of streets over -- joann isn t frightened -- instead she says the community tragedy. 8:40:30 this is just a bump in the road but deep creek will come together that closeness was shown in the nearly one hundred people who came out to a prayer vigil for the family. 8:37:35 going in there and just the love and compassion, we will over come this. where instead of focusing on the tragic way they died -- they thought about the people they were and what they meant to this community. 8:32:51 they were a a very big part baptist 8:41:50 brooke i wasn t really close with her i wasn t friends with her but i knew her

beautiful soul. people who attended the vigil say it was mostly upbeat and positive. while there were tears they say people didn t dwell on their untimely deaths. and tonight will not be the only time the community comes together to remember the dooley family -- they will be out here again her at temple baptist church on saturday for a candle light which will be held in the parking lot here. live in chesapeake i m allison mechanic newschannel 3. let s get a quick check on the weather now-- patrick what are you teacking? sunshine and 60 degree weather eventually. as an area of low pressure that brought us clouds and a few showers today moves away, our skies will continue to clear overnight. we should wake friday morning. but a dying cold front will bring us gusty winds and a few passing clouds from time to time.

passing sprinkles. expect highs to end the work week in the mid-to-upper 40s. the weekend will bring us plenty of sunshine and even milder weather. by saturday afternoon our winds will shift around to the south pumping in those warmer temperatures. we will see highs on saturday in the upper 40s and lower 50s. and it gets even warmer on sunday with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s with just a few passing clouds. monday brings a few more clouds and a little more warmth, with high temperatures in the mid 60s. the mild weather sticks around for tuesday and wednesday, but it looks like the sunshine will be replaced by showers. we will have a 30% chance r rain on tuesday and a 50% chance on wednesday. thursday brings more falling rain and falling temperatures, with highs back in the 50s.

a family is taking action to try and get answers in their son s death. chris allen served in the navy. he was shot and killed early this month in norfolk. since then -- police have no leads -- so the family is offering a reward on their own. newschannel 3 s brendan ponton has the story. 46:10 part of us died with chris. we )re trying to get some closure don and mary ann allen want the people with information about their son s killing to put themselves in their shoes. they )re a mother and father from out of town with no idea as to why their youngest child --chris -- was shot and killed earlier this month in norfolk. he was 27. 37:50 chris was an out going guy a fun loving guy. easy to get

a house fire in chesapeake leads police and fire crews to a disturbing discovery -- a body found inside. chesapeake crews were called to hoover avenue for a house fire around noon today. a neighbor describes the chilling moment she found out the house was on fire. 35;30 i yelled through the window i was screaming her name because she was yelling at first, then she became silent butt to 35;26 all i could do was just get over there because i knew she was in the house neighbors tell newschannel 3 the woman who was found inside had only lived there for a few months -- but she quickly became a part of the community. police are calling this an ongoing death investigation. if you know anything about it, you re asked to take action-p&and call the crimeline. -p&1-888- lock-u-up. the gates county sheriff s

they arrested gerald waverly bass yesterday in the death of calvin bell. today a dive team searched for evidence in the water near highway 137. bell was shot and killed near his home in hobbsville. back in october, the sheriff s office arrested aaron holland. we are awaiting word on the exact charges bass is facing. new tonight two people are in the hospital after a fire in newport news firefighters say it happened in a townhome on town square drive near 75th street. crews got the call just after four-30 this afternoon. two people were taken to riverside hospital for smoke inhalation. there s no word yet on what started the fire. and take a lok at this--- a driver slammed into a home in newport news this morning. the newport news fire department -- sent us this picture from chestnut avenue. we )re told the driver lost control taking the exit off interstate 6-64 and hit the home. the house is condemned. new tonight portsmouth police are looking for help solving an armed

carter announced he will double the length of fully paid maternity leave for female service members. he also plans to boost time off for paternity leave and adoptions. asgh carter today i am setting 12 weeks of fully paid maternity leave as the standard across the joint force, doubling this benefit from six weeks when i entered office. carter also plans to expand health care coverage to include more benefits for women trying to get pregnant. and he wants military services to expand the hours for military child care facilities can accommodate. the news is not as good for navy moms. this new plan cuts their maternity leave from 18 weeks granted just last year to 12 weeks. next at 11 they say a picture is worth a thousand words. why this one is worth more than
